Technical FAQ
What are the Sony's global shutter image sensors?
Sony offers industrial image sensors featuring Pregius™ and Pregius S™ global shutter technologies. They are ideal for imaging inspections in machine vision and the smart industry that require the processing of a large volume of image data at high speed, as they make it possible to capture high-quality, undistorted images at high speeds. These products also expand the scope of their applications from factory automation to other industrial imaging and sensing contexts, such as traffic monitoring and infrastructure inspection.

What are the Sony's polarization image sensors?
Polarization image sensors have multi-directional polarizer which is formed on top of the photodiode of the image sensor chip (On-Chip Polarizer). In addition to brightness and color information, these image sensors can capture polarization information that cannot be detected by a conventional image sensors. They are expected to be used in many applications in the industrial fields, such as inspection when imaging and sensing are difficult.

What are the Sony's Ultraviolet (UV) image sensors?
Sony offers Ultraviolet (UV) image sensors designed to detect ultraviolet wavelengths beyond the visible spectrum, with Pregius S™ technology facilitating the global shutter function and high speed operation. These sensors are adaptable to a wide range of use cases such as semiconductor pattern inspection, material sorting at a recycling plant, inspection of micro-defects on product surfaces, and infrastructure inspections as well as in life science.

What are the Sony's multispectral image sensors?
Sony's multispectral image sensor has a multispectral filter formed on the photodiode of each pixel, making it possible to capture multiple wavelengths of light simultaneously, from visible light to near-infrared light. Because these sensors can capture the composition of different substances as well as subtle color differences that are imperceptible to the human eye, they can be used in applications like material sorting, contaminant detection inspection, and quality management.
